Wellness is as common a household word these days as “kale” or “healthy fats.”

But what are we actually doing about it?

Wellness has always been our #1 goal at Dr. Gena Chiropractic,” owner and founder of her leading chiropractic care and wellness center in south Florida, Dr. Gena, says.

Wellness is the state of being in good health, especially as an actively pursued goal, and we’re always encouraging patients to seek wellness with chiropractic care.”

But wellness, however, does not come as a result of a quick fix or a one-time chiropractic adjustment at a favorite chiropractic care center in Plantation. Living a life of wellness, one where each moment of each day is lived with the intent to “be well” takes dedication, commitment, and self-respect.

What if we asked you to think about it from the opposite perspective? Think of wellness as the angel on your shoulder, and the opposite of wellness as the devil on your other shoulder. Hydrate May seem like a no-brainer right? But did you know that your body needs more hydration in the hot summer months than during any other time of year? You are outdoors more, and it is critical that you replenish the electrolytes lost through sweating. According a recent Forbes article, “The amount of water that is right for your body depends on several factors. The U.S. National Research Council recommends eight to ten eight-ounce glasses a day. Another way to calculate the right amount is to divide your body weight in half (using pounds), then drink that many ounces. And listen to your body. Even if you are working out in the water, you are still sweating.”

Bonus! So many of our favorite summer fruits and veggies are CHOCK full of water to help you reach your intake goals. Munch on the following healthy treats to get your fill:

Vitamin Sea Yes, you read that right! We’re talking about the healing properties that the ocean brings. A favorite personal wellness practice of Dr. Gena’s is take a few moments each week to visit the beach, because she firmly believes that “Time and the ocean can heal all wounds,” and here’s why:

The sound of the waves crashing against the sea shore can actually alter your brain waves, forcing you into a relaxed state. It triggers the release of dopamine and serotonin in the brain which work to reduce your stress levels. Additionally, sunlight gives you Vitamin D, which helps boost immune function. While abusing the sun could have unhealthy effects, just the right amount can work wonders for how you feel.

Working out, OUTDOORS! Is there anything better than trading the treadmill for a workout al fresco? We think not.
